Problem Statement
A1 Comms, a leading provider of mobile communications and technology services, wanted to expand its capabilities and enter the Unified Communications (UC) market by offering its own UC package. They needed a unique and memorable brand identity that could represent their new service and attract potential clients. As a designer, my role was to create a playful and quirky brand called YodeKoo with a strong visual identity that is both professional and eye-catching. The brand had to be standalone and not linked to any A1Comms brands. The project objectives were to create a name, visual identity, and URL that could work alongside the brand. The project duration was three months.

Research

After much research and development, I created the brand Yodekoo (Pronounced “Yode-Koo”) for A1 Comms.

Yodekoo is a name created from a series of words: Yoke, Node, and Coo. Each with its own meaning, the words are put together to create a new unique word and definition, which represents this new service. The benefits of having a unique name are top search results as well as not losing business to competitors due to similarity of names with anyone else.

Reason for the Name: Like Google and Netflix, we create a unique name that is rememberable and easy to find via online searching. A lot of the competition used keywords within their brand name, which caused a whole list of brands to be displayed. Consumers will go to the first one they like.

Summary

As a designer for the YodeKoo project, I was tasked with creating a new brand identity for A1 Comms’ Unified Comms products and services. My responsibilities included developing a unique and memorable name, a strong visual brand identity, and a URL that would work alongside the brand. The brand needed to be professional-looking, simple to understand, and eye-catching, without any connection to A1 Comms’ existing brands.

I successfully developed the YodeKoo brand, a playful and quirky name that stood out in the VOIP industry. The brand identity I created was strong and inspiring, with a visual design that perfectly captured the brand’s personality. The URL I selected was available and worked seamlessly alongside the brand.

My efforts resulted in a successful outcome for A1 Comms, allowing them to enter the UC market by selling their own unified communications package. Through this project, I gained valuable experience in branding, asset creation, and design for a specific target audience in the B2C sector. I also developed valuable skills in project management and working collaboratively with a team.
